September 20th PAC meeting minutes

UHill Secondary PAC meeting
September 20, 2017   

1. Approval of previous Meeting Minutes. Motioned and seconded.  Carried.
2. Approval of current Agenda.  Motioned and seconded.  Carried
3. Co-chair report.
• Welcome to all, new and returning parents
• Events at last school year: Thanks to all who supported and participated!
• Our shared goal this year is focused on building a strong, inclusive, diverse community. Individual social, ethnic, and professional identities are so important to benefit the Community, best when shared, reinforced, and celebrated together. Parents and kids.
• PAC meets monthly on the second Wednesday. We appreciate parents direct involvement. Always.
• We have 3 volunteers for Gr. 9 and 2 for Gr.12 representatives.

4. Principal’s Report.
This is Tim McGeer’s 2nd year at UHill.  He takes pride in the school’s Mission Statement, and will make sure UHill hold on to its excellence.  He is touched by the parent’s support, and hope to continue building community.
Growth of school: 60 Whitecaps students.  47 new international students, brings the total to 147.  50 new students in other grades plus Gr. 9 new students.  Total: 816
UHill is a no bell school, students are all self regulated.
Welcome back carnival for students last Friday. .  
Will bring workshops for students throughout the year. Topic may include: teen anxiety, technology usage, drugs and alcohol, etc.
School has a new Logo that was created by students last year, to reflect we are on First nation land.
Re “why school needs donation”:  School board only provide basic funding.  Fundraising is used for Enrichment for school: upgrade of computer, lab equipment, performers, scholarships.
This year school has an uncertain start - due to teacher shortage, some classes are still in planning.  It will be settled very soon.  End result will be more classes, less student in a class to provide better service to students.

5. Treasurer’s Report.
Gaming account has $6 left from last year.  General account has $4891.
Money raised at Auction ($5033) and Annual donation ($10475) are being send to school directly. Future PAC meetings will have the Treasurer's Report incorporated into the electronic presentation.

6. Fundraising.
  • Fundraising is necessary for school’s extra curricular programme and enrichment materials.
  • Save-on Foods and Purdy’s Chocolates.  Lots of interests from parents.  Written details will be send out in October.

7. PAC’s upcoming events.
  • LGT (or GT) is intended as informal parent community building events, frequency to be decided.
  • Workshop events and notifications are to be developed and managed by Anne and Farinaz.
  • Principal’s night, Oct. 4th, 6:30pm.  Light refreshment will be served. A chance for parents to get more information about school/system, dialog with Mr. McGeer, talk about vision for school.

8. Uniting and encouraging more parent’s participation in PAC, supporting all our children and the Community.
