Letter from Premier Campbell dated February 20 -commitment but as of yet no go ahead

Thank you for your email dated February 16th, regarding the proposed school construction projects at UBC.

In April 2005, the Ministry of Education supported an addition to University Hill Secondary to meet the educational space needs for students in the UBC area. Following government's initial support of this school expansion, the Vancouver Board of Education went through an extended facilities review and requested an amendment to the project. The board requested support to acquire and renovate a building to become the new home of University Hill Secondary (grade 9 to 12), and to convert the existing secondary school to become a new elementary/intermediate school (grade k to 8).

The ministry is supportive of these amendments to the original project and has been working with the Vancouver School District to move construction forward at UBC. Government is presently working to accelerate these projects as part of our commitment to speed up infrastructure investments to create jobs and opportunities for British Columbians.

I recognize that planning for the construction of K-12 school facilities at UBC has been challenging and has required amendments to the original plans, but government is committed to meeting the space needs of K-12 students in the UBC area. We will continue to work with the Vancouver Board of Education to move these projects forward as quickly as possible.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write and express your concerns with me.
